Hand It Along, 2025
Three channel video installation
Video link

Hand It Along is a three-channel video installation that reflects on the traces left by shared time within the temporary communities that Gizem Karakas has encountered through artist residency programs. Filmed across different contexts of collective living and working, the videos observe how knowledge circulates informally among participants.

Each channel follows a different mode of transmission: shared recipes prepared in communal kitchens; manual gestures and embodied practices learned through observation and collaboration; and collective expressions of sound, language, and movement. Together, the three channels trace how everyday practices move between people. Hand It Along proposes artistic practice as a relational process grounded in companionship, attention, and care, where knowledge and experience are continually passed from one person to another.
